Contest is part of the 5^th Prima Domra Modern Domra Festival. In 2024 it is dedicated to the birth anniversaries of three distinguished figures in the field of arts who lived and worked in Tambov — composer Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943), poet and statesman Gavriil Derzhavin (1743-1816), and painter Vasily Polenov (1844-1927).

ELIGIBILITY

The Contest is open for candidates of all ages and nationalities.

CONTEST GUIDELINES

The Contest is held in two rounds. The first (selection) round takes place 1 May 2024 – 15 August 2024. The jury members evaluate contestants’ musical scores and choose which compositions will

be performed. The second round takes place in Tambov 1 – 20 September 2024 as a public concert where the finalists’ compositions will be played.

Categories

1. A piece for solo three-string domra / mandolin and chamber choir.
2. A piece for solo three-string domra / mandolin and string orchestra.
3. A piece for Russian folk instruments orchestra.
4. A piece for three-string domra / mandolin and piano.

Not more than 12 candidates are admitted to the second round of the Contest.

PRIZES AND AWARDS

The winners are awarded with the 1st, 2nd, 3d place certificates, Laureate certificates, special awards, and prizes.
Prize Money
1^st Prize 150 000 roubles
2nd Prize 100 000 roubles
3d Prize 50 000 roubles
two Laureate Certificates 10 000 roubles each

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

1. Performance duration is 8-15 minutes.
2. A contestant may present a free-form composition of his/her own both in one of the nominations or in several ones.
3. A composition is not to be published or performed before the Contest.
4. A composition is to be associated thematically with works of Sergei Rachmaninov, Gavriil Derzhavin, and Vasily Polenov.
5. All the materials and topics related to Sergei Rachmaninov, Gavriil Derzhavin, and Vasily Polenov can be used without restraint.

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

1. The expenses for organizing and holding the Contest are borne by the Government and Ministry of Culture of Tambov Region. Transportation expenses are paid by the sending party, sponsors, or by contestants themselves.
2. Accommodation costs for the contestants who pass to the second round are paid by the Organizing Committee.
3. No insurance coverage is provided by the organizers to the participants and the accompanying persons.
